The first phone booths were constructed of wood and made for indoor use only. Outdoor booths were added quite a few years later and were also made of wood. Aluminum booths were introduced in the 1950s. Due to the number of injuries related to doors closing on peoples' hands and others getting trapped inside, most telephone companies removed the phone booth doors.in the 1990's.
